Fallen London App Reviews

Game is neat, app is terrible

Even when its working, theres far too much checking for updates, loading, and "syncing" for a game where 99 percent of the content is text. And sometimes it just doesnt work at all, and hangs indefinitely.

Mr

So right off the bat, yeah, the whole syncing thing is kind of bleh. But worst case so far is that Ive lost a couple minutes of progress, reloaded, and sprinted back through it. This game is text and choices, so its not like the redo is that hard or takes any time :p On to the content. Its fantastic. Id been pursuing the "Choice of...." game series for a while because I like choose your own adventure games, but it always felt like I was just making minor choices and branches on a long straight path. Fallen London bypasses this problem by making lots of bushes. There are collections of choices scattered all over the place, with your actions and choices having a big impact on what youre doing now, as well as smaller (though sometimes significant) impacts on all sorts of other stories through careful, thorough variable and modifier usage. Youre only ever seeing a fraction of the whole story, so you dont run out of content, but at the same time they keep adding new content and theres a bunch of stuff you havent got to yet, so theres always more to see. Their variable and choice tracking system is excellent, so you feel like youre really having a long term impact. By far the best "choose your own adventure" style game Ive ever encountered.

Amazing BUT....

The app is awesome but when I was going to look at another persons profile the app crashed and now it wont even work anymore. Everytime I open it, it shows the F animation and the screen goes blank and nothing happens. Please please please fix this.

Yay

Ive been playing on my computer for the past couple months, and now I can play it whenever you want.

Well deserved (still a few issues)

I hardly write reviews but here we go. The apps story is interesting, and fun to follow. Aside from the long wait between candles (which is needed to make money) the app flows fairly well. There a few few long load screens which gets annoying if you want to pick up and play. Aside from that its perfect! Im gonna subscribe asap

Slow loading, but fun to play

This game would be really great if the app didnt take so long to load. When i first started playing i almost quit immediately because of the 3 min loading screen every time you want to play. I also had problems were the game would load at all, but after deleting and reinstalling the game it works again. Other then that the game has a great story and a fun RPG aspect to it.

Loading

The game is mostly, loading loading loading loading loading loading, loading loading loading, loading loading loading, loading loading loading, loading loading loading

Unplayable...

Whenever I try to creates new account using my email the app crashes, and whenever I try to make one with any other social media it loads for a little, and then gives me the message: "unable to connect to the authentication server." This has been going on for a week now, occasionally I try it again but it always has the same result. I just end up creating a character multiple times. So far, I would not recommend getting the app. If anybody knows how to fix this please help

Good UI but slow

Sloooow app. Game is solid, UI well done, but they need to fix the long time it takes to check for updates.

Love the game but hate the app

Ive been playing Fallen London since the good old Echo Bazaar days. The game remains excellent and fun, but this app is hot garbage. Good luck trying to log in with your Twitter account. Cant wait til they fix the app and make the game work as well on mobile as it does on browser.

Bugs make it unplayable

I love this game and enjoyed it in browser on my pc. However, when the app crashes without showing anything besides a black screen, it can get a little frustrating. The story is well written and is compelling enough to bring you back after your energy depletes but I cant enjoy a game if I cant access it. Please devs, fix this soon!

Nice, but

Though the game seems kind of nice, it requires an internet connection to play. It really shouldnt. I see no reason who in should, since all it does is look for updates, and that can easily be done in the background, or just not at all.

Phenomenal.

UPDATE: Dear people who are complaining about wait times and prices for Fate; Please, stop it. The wait times are for pacing. Think about it this way, its a big story. Well, a big book of stories. The deva designed it this way, meaning with the wait time, so that you CANT finish all of the content too quickly. And the reason the fate price is a bit steep? Two things: Even at the lowest amount you can purchase in-app, its not a small amount. Sure, it may only be 22 fate, but that small amount can get you quite a few places. On top of that, MOST GAMES CHARGE MUCH MORE FOR MUCH LESS. I would know, as Ive been suckers into games like Clash Of Clans and the likes. Paying $20+ for a small CHANCE at getting something I want. This game is NOTHING like that! And the most important reason; THIS GAME IS LITERALLY A LABOR OF LOVE. Go to the website. Read about how this game started. Read about how they made this game NOT FOR PROFIT but because THEY LOVE US, the community. And because they enjoy it! Profit, while nice, isnt what they are after! The prices are there to SUPPORT THEM. Please people, give the game a chance and stop complaining about the most idiotic things! Dont rate this fantastic piece of ART so poorly because YOU arent patient. Seriously. Myself and the actual community of the game are begging you to stop pushing away new people by being snobs. Please... This absolutely phenomenal game is so great words can barely put my feelings out there! New people. Please give this a chance. Completely disregard the 1 and 2 star ratings. Please. NOTE: Please disregard the 1 and 2 star ratings. Please. The app is a bit buggy. And the developers know this! They are working as hard and as fast as they can to fix this. So please, give the game a shot. If the app doesnt work for you, give it some time, or go open the game in your web browser. Dont just give it a 1 star rating because of a bug. Please, this game deserves so much more than that. This whole thing is a labor of love. Dont ruin it for them and the rest of us by poo-pooing it before youve even tried it. Ive been waiting for this port for over a year now and, quite frankly, I couldnt be happier. Not only is it a near seamless port, its... Just fantastic. I love the universe, the game, and now the app (which is technically the game as well lol, but still). If you like a dingy, dark, fantasy steampunk(ish) world set in a Victorian style world, this is your game. Play it. Like it. Love it. Oh. And dont ever look into Mr. Candles. Never. Ever. Look into Mr. Candles. EDIT: They have just released an update that fixes most of the bugs people have been complaining about, including myself. I stand by my 5/5 rating as the Dev team is not only very responsive but they are always right on top of things.

Awesome game

Reminds me of a extremely well written choose your own adventure book. Im hooked!

Going to be great

Ive been wanting a Fallen London app for years, and the result is really cool so far. The tutorial interface is strange (and sometimes prevents the user from seeing what is meant to be explained, such as multi-energy actions), but its got a great soundtrack and the map system is more intuitive than it is on the desktop version. My main concern is that it takes significantly longer to sync than the site does, and sometimes it gets stuck, even though its already saved your progress.

Almost perfect

I used to play this game a long time ago on the PC. I stopped because I didnt feel like logging in multiple times daily for 10 minutes of play time. Now that it is in app form, its more reasonable. I love how there is no set storyline, but its also difficult to find out where to go next and what to do. All in all, I really enjoy the game!

$$$ and load issues

Its a great idea. It would be fun if turns didnt run out so quickly. Also after playing it once the beginning load is very slow. The purchase of turns is also very steep. There is no unlimited turns for a small amount of money. Its 7$ a month for a membership. You get 40 turns instead of 20 with the membership. Turns run out quick.

Help

I start the app after playing for a little bit and now it doesnt get past the failbetter screen, theres just a black screen

Glitch

So far, the most damning bug Ive encountered is that the game refuses to load. I had only managed to play it for an hour. Now it appears to have developed Alzheimers. I dont know if its because I put it on my ipad... but its serious issue either way.

Long Time Fan of the Game, Glad Its On iOS!

Im so glad to see this game come to iPhone, iPad, and iPod. I used to play this game a while ago, and I havent been able to play due to inconveniences or lack of time. Having it on mobile devices will make it a lot easier to play (and I probably will make a separate account for it), so thank you Hannah Flynn and Failbetter Games for this fantastic game.
